Most people know what is an apple, most people like to eat apples and most people know to use them in different recipies. If you like apples, you can surely tell what an apple is, how it looks and how it tastes. So you will have no problem telling what a real apple is, right?
First person : “Everybody knows that a real apple must be green, with its bright skin, hard feel, crisp bite, extremely tart taste and it is an ideal complement to savory foods such as onions and cheese.”
Second person : “No way! Go check the true definition! A real apple is dark-red, top heavy, it has a creamy white interior, juicy, soft and it won’t cook well, so best to eat them raw!”
First : “Oh, yeah? Maybe you will say it shouldn’t be round?!”
Second : “Exactly! It must be heart-shaped and taste sweeter than sugar!”
First : “Only an ignorant person will tell that a real apple is sweet when it must be very sour!”
Third person : “You obviously lack education, both of you! A real apple is yellow, bright and cheery, soft thin-skinned, it doesn’t store well (can bruise and shrivel) and is ideal for pies, salads, sauces, and freezing.”
Fourth person : “Emmm… What is all this nonsense about? A real apple has green-yellow-red shades at once, it is not firm at all, its soft flesh can be described as “creamy” or “mealy”, it is great for applesauce or apple butter, but not necessarily for baking – it becomes too mushy.”
First : “Thin skin?! Creamy?! Have you ever seen an apple?!”
Third : “Yeah, right. Storing apples means dooming them to rot! Stop spoiling good apples!”
Second : “Guess what? They are sour, obviously because they are not ripe at all! Need to wait when they turn dark-red!”
Fourth : “Baking, freezing, eating with cheese… Red flags! Sounds like an abuse to me!”
P.S. : While there are thousands of different types of apples in the world, we’ve rounded up 11 that represent the diversity found in today’s marketplace. Some, like the Red or the Golden Delicious, are tried-and-true favorites in the United States and Canada; others, such as Cameo and Fuji, are relative newcomers to the apple scene.
